ABOUT LAURENS VANTHOOR

Laurens Vanthoor is a Belgian racing driver, born on the 8th of May 1991. He lives near Circuit Zolder and watched his father race during his childhood.

Karting

Like most other drivers, Laurens Vanthoor started out in karting. In 2005 he became French and Belgian Champion in the ICA-J class and also finished fourth in the European Championship. In 2007 Vanthoor became an official factory driver for the CRG racing team in the KF2 category. He ended up being out of action for five months as the result of an accident before switching to single-seaters.

Single-seaters

At the very young age of 16 Vanthoor switched to single-seaters. In 2008 he went straight into the German F3. It didn’t take long before the motorsport world discovered his talent, with a fourth place in the championship in his maiden season, with two wins and three poles. In 2009, Laurens Vanthoor became the youngest German F3 champion ever, winning 11 races, an unbeaten record to this day. Meanwhile he was also the youngest ever driver to compete in the illustrious Macau F3 Grand Prix with a 6th place in 2008. In 2010 he became runner up in the famous street race. In the FIA F3 Euroseries Laurens Vanthoor twice took a 6th spot in the 2010 and 2011 final rankings, clinching 9 podium finishes.

Switch to a roof

2012 was a major change for Laurens Vanthoor, still only 20 at the start of the season. Vanthoor switched to GT racing and in only 3 years he became one of the most successful GT drivers in the motorsport world. “I gave up my dream to become a F1-driver”, explained Laurens Vanthoor at the time. “But I managed to become a professional racing driver, I made my living out of my passion. Vanthoor spent 5 years with WRT Audi in the international GT3. He won the 24-hours races of Spa, Nürburgring, Zolder and Dubai and conquered 5 international titles. His last success with WRT Audi was the World GT Cup in Macau, a track Vanthoor seems to like a lot.

Future

From the 1st of January on, Laurens Vanthoor will race for Porsche Motorsport. “In 2017, I will be a Porsche GT factory driver. After five very successful years together with Audi, I felt the desire to grow. To become a better driver, drive faster cars, race in bigger championships, win other trophies. I'm very proud to join the incredible motorsport history of Porsche and I hope to write some chapters with them. In 2017 I will compete at the steering wheel of the Porsche 911 RSR #912 in GTLM in the American IMSA championship. I will do this with Kevin Estre. Competing in USA has always been something on my wish list so it's a picture perfect. Besides, I might race in some of the most prestigious GT3 races in the world, with Porsche of course.”

If you expect the world to be fair with you because you are fair, you're fooling yourself. That's like expecting the lion not to eat you because you didn't eat him.
